Gight Castle

Details : The ruin of a 16th-century L-plan tower house Built around 1560 by the Gordon Clan. Passing to the husband of Catherine Gordon, one Mad Jack Byron, a gambler who in 1787 sold the Castle to clear gambling debts. Their son was Lord Byron. The Castle was purchased by the 3rd Earl of Aberdeen who gave it to his son Lord Haddo and his wife Charlotte Baird. Lord Haddo was killed at Gight when he fell from his horse and the castle abandoned and rapidly became ruinous.
Paranormal Phenomena : Allegedly haunted by a piper. He was asked to investigate a secret passageway but never came out again ? his pipes are allegedly regularly heard to this day

Glamis Castle

Region : Angus
Location : five miles west of Forfar
Details : a considerable stone and brick structure with turrets, battlements, towers and numerous rooms, suites and galleries. History: Glamis Castle is the historic seat of the Bowes-Lyons family, the lands presented to them by Robert the Bruce in 1372. The Bowes-Lyon family still owns the castle as the Earls of Strathmore. The main keep of the castle dates from the 14th Century, with the towers and turrets added in recent years.
